100 Black Men of Atlanta and Emerging 100 of Atlanta Welcome Students Back at The B.E.S.T. Academy at Thomas W. Dortch Institute

ATLANTA, GA — On the morning of August 4, 2025, members of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta and the Emerging 100 of Atlanta proudly gathered at The B.E.S.T. Academy at the Thomas W. Dortch Institute to welcome students back for the 2025–2026 school year. This powerful show of support marked the first day of school with an inspiring presence of mentorship, encouragement, and leadership.

City and school leadership joined the occasion to uplift and energize the scholars. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson delivered opening remarks, emphasizing the city’s unwavering commitment to education and youth development.

The event continued with keynote remarks from:

  • Chairman Aaron Swain, 100 Black Men of Atlanta

  • President Daniel Farr, Emerging 100 of Atlanta

  • Programs Director Ray Singer, 100 Black Men of Atlanta

  • Principal Robert Williams, The B.E.S.T. Academy at the Thomas W. Dortch Jr. Institute

These leaders shared words of encouragement, vision, and commitment to the young men of B.E.S.T., setting a powerful tone for the academic year ahead.

Following the morning remarks, attendees enjoyed breakfast provided by Chick-fil-A while connecting with event chairs and sponsors. The morning concluded with an engaging Mentee Match Survey Q&A session — a space for students to learn more about mentorship opportunities, ask questions, and begin building lasting relationships with their mentors.

“This is more than just a welcome—it’s a promise,” said Chairman Swain. “We’re here to walk alongside our scholars every step of the way, helping them rise, achieve, and lead.”

The 100 Black Men of Atlanta and the Emerging 100 remain committed to being visible, accessible, and impactful as role models—living out the motto: What They See Is What They’ll Be.
