Statement from the 100 Black Men of Atlanta on the Passing of the Honorable Alexis M. Herman

The 100 Black Men of Atlanta mourns the passing of the Honorable Alexis M. Herman, a pioneering leader whose life’s work reflected an enduring commitment to equity, opportunity, and the advancement of our communities.

Secretary Herman was not only the first African American to serve as U.S. Secretary of Labor—she was a steadfast advocate for young people and a champion of organizations working to close the opportunity gap. Her unwavering support of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta reflected her belief in the power of mentorship, education, and community engagement. She often spoke of the importance of investing in the next generation, and her partnership with our organization helped amplify our mission to provide pathways to success for young Black men in Atlanta and beyond.

We remember Secretary Herman not just for her historic accomplishments, but for her personal encouragement, her presence at our events, and her commitment to uplifting others. Her legacy is woven into the fabric of our work, and we will continue to honor her through the lives we impact every day.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who were touched by her remarkable life. May her memory be a source of strength and inspiration for generations to come.

May she rest in power and peace.
